Story Behind This Song

As a kid we’d sing the song, “Bless the Lord oh my soul” in church, and I would sing along, but really I had no idea what I was singing. That phrase had become totally cliché for me. It was only as an adult that I realized that David was speaking to His soul…basically saying “Soul, whether you feel like it or not, BLESS the Lord!” There are times when it’s so hard to pray, when it’s so hard to hold on to hope and continue to bless the Lord, especially when our circumstances make us feel like we’ve been forsaken. But making the choice to tell the Lord how good He is, in the midst of the most painful seasons of our lives is the deepest, most authentic form of worship there is…and it’s that kind of worship that releases the Lord to pour out on us His supernatural strength and all sufficient grace.
