Story Behind This Song

As long as I’ve been in relationship with the Lord, I am still in awe of His unbelievable, unconditional love for me. I don’t deserve it. There’s nothing I can do to earn it. And yet, somehow, He is in love with ME. It’s mind boggling. And yet the closer I get to God, the more I realize how crucial it is not only to understand the depths of His love intellectually, but to receive and accept His love in my heart. When I begin to grasp the extent of His love for me, I see my circumstances through different lenses. I can trust Him even when I cannot see, because I KNOW that He loves me and always has my best interest in mind.
For far too long in my life, I refused to take risks, or dream big dreams for God, because I was afraid of failure and rejection. I didn’t ‘get’ his love for me and because of that I ran from His call. When I wrote this song I envisioned the ocean as a metaphor of God’s love…and I realized that I was standing on the shore, with my toes barely wet in the water. My prayer was to continue to walk out into the water by faith, first to my knees, then to my waist, then to my shoulders, until I was entirely immersed in His love. I wanted the love exchange between God and I to be as natural as breathing. This continues to be my heart’s cry.
