Story Behind This Song

God’s command for us to ‘love our enemies’ is about as counter culture as you can get. It’s difficult for me to even pray for people who have wronged me, no less serve them and love them in tangible ways. And yet, how amazing is God, that He demonstrated His own love for us in this…that “While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8)

When I look back at my own life, I see that God was stirring my heart and whispering His call in my ear from a young age. I knew He was asking me to dive into deep waters, but because of my fears and inadequacies, I had barely allowed my toes to get wet. When the point of decision finally came, and it was time for me to either say yes to God, or forfeit my destiny…I was in a very dry and barren place. Mentally, I had lost sight of His truth, and my heart was far from Him. And yet that day, God pulled out all the stops, and miraculously called me out in a way that has forever altered the course of my life. I didn’t deserve it. I still can’t wrap my mind around it. And yet His love and grace lifted me out of my complacency and brought me into the most purpose-driven exciting time of my life.

God loves us just the way we are, but He loves us too much to let us stay that way. The best way we can thank God for his unmerited favor, is to offer our lives back to him, holy and pure. Romans 12:1 says “And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him.”
